Book Description: A pair of exquisite watercolours mounted on rectos of two consecutive preliminary blank leaves of Under the Window, signed by Kate Greenaway to the half-title, numerous colour illustrations, interleaved throughout, original upper cover bound in at the front (preceding half-title), a.e.g., marbled endpapers, early 20th century navy half morocco, spine ends rubbed, spine divided by gilt rule decoration. Raised bands, gilt lettered direct in second compartment, remainder with single gilt flower tool. The first watercolour - Two girls with Rackets - shows small girl and an older girl carrying rackets, running through a rain shower (49 x 63 mm). The second watercolour - Gathering Apples - shows three small girls in mob caps kneeling at the foot of a tree, gathering apples in baskets, within a painted lunette frame (44 x 71 mm) (YBP Ref: 17870/2 15)

Book Description: Scarce. Brown Full Leather boards with gilt lettering to spine. Leather boards are marked and leather is slightly cracked in places due to age. Boards corners are bumped and some loss of leather rubbed away and worn at the corners. Slight wear to edges. Spine is age darkened with bumping to top and bottom. Spine has 4 raised bands. Decorative design stitched into the front and rear leather boards. Gilt decorative spine label present on spine. Spine leather is cracked and dry. Some loss to the leather at top of spine. Four raised bands. FFEP is missing. Previous owner's mark on title page in ink. Front inner hinge is cracked but holding. Rear inner hinge is cracked but holding. Frontispiece present with tissue guard present of the author, Suetonius. Text block is tanned, with some marks and page ends folded down, but clean. 520 pp. 12 plates plus frontis. 12 engraved portraits of the twelve Caesars. Some marginal worming to the centre base of the text block, but this is not affecting the text. Rare in this early translation. When securely packed this item will weigh in the region of 755g.
